I have been obsessed by the endlessly fascinating life of Geoffrey Chaucer since university and have channeled this interest into The Storyteller series of historical novels.
Chaucer led many lives. Son of a wine trader. Soldier. Page, valet and esquire to royalty, diplomat and ‘reluctant spy’ for King Edward the Third. Senior bureaucrat, Member of Parliament, spin-doctor for the ages, Chaucer wrote in English when those in power wrote and spoke in French – a rebel of sorts whose voice could not be silenced, now called the “father of English literature”.

In May 2023 I undertook a research trip to London, Bordeaux, Navarre, Rioja, Castile and Aragon (Barcelona) to research the first novel in the series, The Storyteller’s War: Geoffrey Chaucer, Reluctant Spy, to be released May 8, 2025 by Black Rose Writing. The journey was covered in my blog post here.
PRE-ORDER a copy now from Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, or Amazon.co.uk and from Barnes & Noble. Pre-order from publisher Black Rose Writing here and save 15% using the code PREORDER2025.
The novel was long-listed short-listed a semi-finalist for the Chanticleer Book Reviews award for early historical fiction.
The Storyteller’s Reputation is the second novel in the series, but the first to be written. Two research trips to Europe that included London, Paris, Milan and Tuscany helped paint some of the details, and the story was a finalist for the Pacific Northwest Writing Conference Historical Novel competition. To be released next, date TBD.
I’m also working on the sequel, The Storyteller’s Desire, and planning another research trip to Europe for the next book in the series. More details to follow.
Check my blog and social media accounts for updates on my research trips as I follow in Chaucer’s footsteps, and on my progress with research, writing, editing and publication.
I’ll also be at the following events, conferences and festivals. Feel free to reach out if you’re interested in learning more about my writing and journey, or to just chat about historical fiction, all things medieval, short stories or writing in general.
